Rural agrarian populations in Bungoma County

DFID’s MNH programme currently funds MSI/Options to implement MNH programming in Bungoma county under the MANI project, through a health systems strengthening approach that address both supply and demand side barriers.

  • At the county and sub-county levels, MANI supports efforts to improve leadership and governance, planning and budgeting, HRH, health care financing, procurement and supply chain management, and HMIS.
  • At the service delivery level MANI supports installation of green energy solutions, quality improvement committees, SBMR, MPDSR, EMONC functionality, respectful maternity care, and performance based financing.
  • To generate demand, MANI is strengthening CUs, and implements a mobile CBHMIS, transport vouchers for facility delivery, and a range of SBCC interventions including reorienting TBAs as birth companions, radio programming, community scorecards, and participatory education theatre. DFID also funds LSTM to support HCW training on EMONC.
  • A handful of other partners implement significant MNH programs throughout the county.

Despite the investments made to date and current MNH activities, there are opportunities for improving MNH outcomes related to the following priority gaps:
